About the Network (NAWBS)

Our network consists of anthropologists from the Baltic States and anthropologists from other countries who are doing research in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The network idea was conceived in 2003 by anthropologists from the Baltic States and the Nordic countries at the workshop: "Micro Perspectives on Post-Soviet Transformations" in Helsinki. It is still early days, but we hope that the network will provide useful contacts and information for researchers and help define the Baltic States as a region in anthropology.

The first network activity is the conference: Defining Ourselves: Establishing Anthropology in the Baltic States, in Vilnius in October 2003. In addition to conferences, the network will administer an email list and update the website with relevant links and information about anthropologists in the network.

You can help by filling in our questionnaire and signing up for the email list.
