Riga Stradins University (Latvia)The Department is seeking a lecturer/docent (depending on the qualifications of the applicant) in social or cultural anthropology. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Applicants must have a commitment to scholarly research and will also be expected to assist in developing the profile of the Department. If the applicant is applying for the position of lecturer, there is a possibility to upgrade the position of docent after the requirements for the position are met.
Starting from January 2007 the Department of Communications will offer graduate and postgraduate qualifications in social anthropology. The complete curriculum as well as the areas of specialisation are at the moment being developed and will depend also on the fields of specialisation of the successful applicant. The Department has good links with local and regional associations of anthropologists. The program of social anthropology initially will be partially integrated with the program of communications studies but in near future will develop as an independent program.

1. The successful applicant will contribute to core and inter-subdisciplinary courses in the Department of Communications, and will be expected to develop courses in one or more areas. An active engagement in research and the promotion of student research, including the supervision of graduate students, is a key expectation of this position.Term:

· a PhD in social or cultural anthropology;
· a demonstrated capacity for research and publication;
· research and teaching interests in contemporary theory and the practice of anthropology in one or more areas. Regional specialisation is not restricted although preference may be given to applicants that have interest in Latvia as a field of study and at least basic knowledge of Latvian language.Duties:
